Why visit Leh?
Leh combines the old town, palace, market, Shanti Stupa and the services needed before remote travel. Spend the first two nights here after flying in.
Best things to see and do
- Leh Palace and old town lanes
- Shanti Stupa at sunrise or sunset
- Central market and local cafés
- Hall of Fame and nearby villages
How to reach Leh
Flights connect Leh with major Indian cities. The Srinagar and Manali highways operate seasonally. Protect arrival day for rest.
Where to stay
Choose the market area for walkability, Changspa for guesthouses and cafés, or quieter outskirts for gardens and views.
Altitude and practical planning
Leh is at 3,500 m. Conditions can change quickly in Ladakh. Carry identification, cash, warm layers, water and essential medication. Confirm current roads, permits and operating accommodation before leaving Leh or Kargil.
Do not drive to Pangong, Nubra or a high pass immediately after landing.
Suggested trip planning
