In Ladakh, transport is not simply a transfer between attractions. The driver, vehicle condition, luggage space, route permissions, departure time and familiarity with high roads shape the entire day.

Choosing the right vehicle
An Innova, Crysta, Scorpio or similar SUV works for many private groups, but advertised seat count is not the same as comfortable capacity with luggage. Four adults with large bags may be more comfortable than six. Tempo Travellers suit larger groups but handle and feel different on mountain roads.
What to confirm in a taxi quote
- Exact pickup, drop and sightseeing route.
- Vehicle category and passenger/luggage assumptions.
- Driver food and accommodation.
- Fuel, toll, parking and union-rate treatment.
- Extra-day, route-change and waiting policy.
- Whether local vehicles are required inside a resort or sightseeing zone.
Road safety and comfort
Start early, use seat belts where fitted and never pressure a driver to rush. Keep water, medicine, snacks and a warm layer inside the cabin. Avoid standing through sunroofs and do not plan night driving simply to recover a late departure.
Shared versus private transport
Shared vehicles can reduce cost and environmental impact for solo travellers, but departures, stops and luggage are fixed. Private transport offers flexibility for families, photographers and slower travellers. We recommend according to the group rather than automatically upselling.
