Altitude and practical planning
Sham Valley is at About 3,100–3,700 m. Conditions can change quickly in Ladakh. Carry identification, cash, warm layers, water and essential medication. Confirm current roads, permits and operating accommodation before leaving Leh or Kargil.
Do not let Magnetic Hill consume time better spent at Alchi, Basgo or a village walk.
