April and May
Leh is accessible by air while seasonal camps and highways reopen gradually. Nights remain cold. Never build an early trip around an unconfirmed road-opening date.
June
A strong first-trip month with widening access and snow around high passes. The Srinagar–Leh road generally becomes useful earlier than the highest Manali sectors.
July and August
The broadest circuit choice and busiest period. Ladakh is drier than much of India, but approach roads can still face landslides and cloudbursts.
September and October
September often offers clear light and fewer crowds. Nights become cold and seasonal stays close progressively. October requires a flexible, cold-ready plan.
Winter
A specialist air-access journey with severe cold and limited services. Frozen plumbing, short daylight and closed remote stays are normal.
