Begin with available nights
A first fly-in trip needs at least six nights for Leh, Nubra and Pangong. Seven to ten nights is more resilient and allows a separate acclimatisation excursion or second Nubra night.
Choose the gateway
Flying to Leh saves time but makes the first 48 hours critical. The Srinagar highway gains height more gradually over two days. The Manali approach crosses very high terrain and is better after acclimatisation.
Design around sleeping altitude
The highest place visited is less important than where you sleep. Keep early nights in Leh, then progress to Nubra and higher lake regions only when symptom-free.
Book in the right order
Confirm dates and flights, then the route, key stays and vehicle. Leave weather-sensitive activities and minor tickets until conditions are clearer.
Keep a buffer
Mountain roads close. Protect at least one flexible day before an important flight or international connection.
Confirm live weather, roads, government rules, operating stays and prices close to departure. This guide supports planning but does not replace official instructions or medical advice.
