May
Leh is active by air while some high roads, camps and remote stays are still reopening. Expect cold nights and do not build a plan around an unconfirmed highway opening.
June to August
This is the broadest road season and the busiest time. Ladakh lies in a rain shadow, but approach roads can still face rain, landslides or cloudbursts. Book key stays early.
September
Often a strong balance of clearer skies and fewer crowds. Nights cool quickly and some seasonal operations begin reducing services later in the month.
October and winter
October becomes progressively colder and less predictable for remote circuits. Winter is a specialist air-access journey with severe cold, shorter days and limited plumbing or accommodation.
How to choose
Choose by experience: summer for road access, September for quieter photography, winter only with cold-weather preparation. Always check the latest IMD forecast and local road notices.
