Ladakh contains border and protected regions where visitor movement is regulated. The process can involve environmental fees, registrations, Inner Line Permit procedures or Protected Area Permits depending on nationality, passport type and route.
Indian and foreign travellers
Indian citizens and foreign nationals may follow different procedures. Some foreign nationalities, diplomatic or official passports and other categories require additional approval. Never assume another traveller’s permit applies to you.

Carry original government photo identification plus copies. Foreign visitors need passport, valid visa and copies. Booking names must match identification. Keep secure offline copies and several printed sets for checkpoints.

First confirm the exact villages and circuits. Use only the current official administration process or a registered operator. Enter details exactly, pay applicable official fees, print the receipt and verify that each road remains open.
Common mistakes
Old portal links, screenshots and social posts become outdated. A permit does not override a closed road, weather restriction or checkpoint instruction. Never add an unapproved border detour because it appears on a digital map.
