Where cash matters
Cards and UPI are common in Leh but cannot be assumed in villages, at small cafés, checkpoints or during network outages. Split emergency cash between travellers.
ATMs
Leh and Kargil offer the best ATM access, but machines can be busy or temporarily unavailable. Withdraw before remote sectors rather than depending on the final town.
Main budget groups
Plan flights, accommodation, vehicle, meals, permits, entry tickets, activities and tips separately. A low package headline may exclude local taxis, heating or remote stays.
Quote checklist
Ask for exact hotels, room category, meal plan, vehicle, permit-fee treatment, airport transfers, driver costs and every exclusion in writing.
Emergency reserve
Keep a reserve for road changes, an added hotel night, medical consultation or revised transport. Mountain disruption can create costs outside the original plan.
Roads, government procedures, mobile arrangements, prices and weather change. Reconfirm close to departure through official authorities and your registered local operator.
